    LAST NIGHT:

BU's John Bradley earned his 2nd shutout in three games as his
team outshot Harvard 38-23 enroute to a 4-0 win at Harvard's
Bright Center. McEachern and Keith Tkachuk scored in the
first and second to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead going into the
third, and David Sacco & McEachern again tallied to put it away.

BC jumped out to a 4-1 lead on Northeastern by the 12:40 mark of the
first period and won, 6-4. LaGrand made 15 saves for BC and Tom
Cole stopped 27 shots for NU. BC goals came from McInnis, O'Neill,
Emma (2), Heinze, and Guerin, while NU's Cyr, Taylor (a rookie who
has played well in a tough situation where he is counted on), and
LaPlante (2) scored. See Kap's posting for more detail from an
    eyewitness.

As Kap pointed out to me but did not post, last night was a preview
of the first round of the 1991 Beanpot. BU will play Harvard and
BC will play NU on the first Monday in February. Kap notes that
BU and BC were his picks (surprise) for last night and for the
Beanpot, so dig out those shoeboxes full of money and call your
    friendly neighborhood bookie.

    IN OTHER ACTION:

New Hampshire led visiting Alaska-Anchorage 4-1 after two and had to
hold on for a 5-4 win. Kevin Thomson scored the only goal of the
first period for UNH, then Chris Winnes gave the Wildcats a two-
goal lead at 2:01 of the second before the Seawolves' Doug Spooner
cut the lead to one. But Kevin Dean and Joe Flanagan followed that
up, Flanagan's goal coming with 14 seconds left in the period, to
give UNH a commanding 4-1 lead after two. Frank Messina beat Paul
Krake just 12 seconds into the third to make it 5-1. But Anchorage
fought back with three late goals from Trent Ponkewicz (16:09),
Derek Donald (17:17), and Rob Conn (18:37) before succumbing by a
mere goal. Krake stopped 38 UNH shots in the defeat, while the
    Wildcats' Jeff Levy stopped 32.

Providence suffered a 5-4 overtime loss last year at home at the
hands of crosstown rival Brown, but this year the Friars had no
trouble disposing of the Bruins in Meehan Auditorium. PC vaulted
out to a 4-0 lead after one on its way to the 7-1 win. Gary Socha,
Lyle Wildgoose, Mario Aube, Rob Gaudreau (2), Jeff Robison, and
Bob Cowan all scored for the undefeated Friars while Kelly Jones got
the lone Brown goal in the third period to make it 5-1. Brad
Mullahy had 18 saves for PC and Brett Haywood stopped 20 shots for
    Brown.
