Well, last week I was sitting at a local watering hole half-watching
the game between the Phoenix Roadrunners and the San Francisco Spiders that
was coming in over the satellite-fed TV. San Francisco featured such
fossils as Rod Langway (still sans helmet) and Normand Rochefort ... but
the *star* for San Francisco that night (albeit in a losing cause) was our
old friend Ian Boyce from UVM, whom we discussed last week. He scored a
goal on a fabulous solo effort, among other things, and was interviewed
between periods.

Seeing him reminded me of the 1989 ECAC semifinal victory that
UVM scored over Harvard --- one of the Boston Garden Memories people here
have recounted recently. Oh, those Catamount fans ... but here's a question.
What ever happened to Kyle McDonough?? He was another of Vermont's leaders
that season. I always thought it ironic that Kyle's father Al, along
with Lane MacDonald's father Lowell, spent some time playing wings on
either side of Syl Apps Jr. (whose son is allegedly starting at Princeton
this year) on Pittsburgh's teams in the early '70s. And then in 1989,
Kyle and Lane played against one another as seniors in that memorable
ECAC game.
