ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine Black Bears will have
to wait at least another day before they can clinch the Hockey
East regular season title. Former Maine assistant coach Bruce
Crowder led his UMass-Lowell Riverhawks to a 4-1 HE win over the
Black Bears at Harold Alfond Sports Arena Saturday night.
Even with the loss, Maine could have clinched the title and
an automatic berth in the NCAA quarterfinals if Merrimack had
beaten Boston University. However, the BU Terriers came back from
a 3-2 deficit to beat the Warriors 5-3 Saturday night to stay
alive in the race for the regular season conference title.
     Maine outshot UMass-Lowell 39-18 unofficially.
"We didn't play heads-up as a team," Maine head coach Shawn
Walsh said after the game. "We played as individuals."
Maine plays UMass-Lowell again Sunday afternoon at 5:30 at
Alfond Arena.
