Howard Quimby sent this note to me as a personal response to my post on ESPN
coverage. My point was, that excellent TV coverage can help tremendously in
developing hockey interest at all levels in hockey areas and non-hockey
locales. I had no idea that ESPN was utilizing Canadian resources nor that
this level of coverage was routine in Canada and thought others might be
interested. I also wonder if we shouldn't make an effort to tell ESPN that we
appreciate their efforts and hope that they will follow-up next year by
promoting hockey in general and helping themselves by giving college hockey
scores in the winter. Does anyone have an E-mail address for ESPN?

 Hi!

I was reading your post about ESPN's hockey coverage and noticed that
you liked all the extra camera angles and the goal-cam. In reality, you shoul
d
be thanking CBC for the superb camera work. CBC (as I understand) is the
Canadian Broadcast Company and might even be equivalent to our PBS network.
If you're lucky enough to have access to a satellite dish, you can watch
"Molson
Hockey Night in Canada" on CBC. It's awesome. Once you've seen a complete
CBC-covered game, all other broadcasts are, well...., lame. But the thing I
noticed last week was that ESPN has scammed CBC's music! So I agree with you
that we've seen some pretty good game coverage on ESPN, but I wanted to let yo
u
know that it was by no means any great American genius that brought it to us.
If the Canadians were to be known for only one thing--they know how to cover
hockey! If only we could get CBC on cable in the U.S..........

 Cheers,
 H

[log in to unmask] on the proposed Hockey East shootout:

"I do think there is some curiosity about the shootout among fans, myself
included, but kind of like when you drive past an accident on the highway.
Everybody wants to see it, but no one wants to be involved in it."
