What a treat!

Watching the most entertaining goalie in the WCHA, and finally, having a game
we didn't have to worry about in the third period!

The Gophers took it to the Pioneers, who circled their wagons more than once
this evening in Mariucci Arena. The Pioneers gave it their all in a relatively
clean game (which was real nice to watch, for a change). The best show, of
course was put on by Denver netminder, Sinuhe Wallenheimo. ;-) What a
character!

Unfortunately "Wally" as the crowd was calling him, didn't have his best
game and coach Serratore replaced him with Mullin with about six minutes left
in the second period. The crowd was outraged! ;-) They had been having quite a
bit of fun with him till then. He even dogged a Gopher player who was standing
in the crease waiting for a pass, by matching his moves side to side.

After the Gophers scored on Mullin, the students started chanting: "Worse than
Wally". They chanted "we want Wally" several times too.

There was another "Wally" in attendence at the game, Wally the beer man, who
sells beer and pop up and down the aisles. He's quite a familiar local
character who also works the Twins and Vikings games. Now the student section
(#14) saw the beer man Wally and started chanting: Wally (and pointed to the
beer man) and then chanted SIEVE and pointed to Wallenheimo. It was pretty
funny.

Gopher Justin McHugh got a hat trick and about five hats came sailing down
onto the ice. He's a goalie's nightmare! Just like his favorite fan's T-shirt
says.

At the very end of the game, during the last minute section 14 started
chanting PLAY HOSEA! Hosea, is on the Gopher Basketball team, he walked on as
he is only about 5-8. Hosea only gets to play on the court when the Gophers
are assured of a win. It was really cute, when the students started that
chant.

Hope we can wrap it up tomorrow night. (Sorry Jack!)
-Carol
