From the Ann Arbor News, Sunday, January 30:

Game attracts record crowd
-NCAA single-game, regular season crowd of 20,427 watch. But about 500
ticketholders are turned away.

By Dan Gretzner, II

Auburn Hills - The Palace of Auburn Hills might have done too good a job of
marketing Saturday's Michigan-Notre Dame hockey game.
About 500 fans with tickets didn't get to see Michigan's 3-1 victory because
they were turned away at the door. Too many tickets were sold or given away in
advance.
But the 20,427 fans that did see the game set an NCAA single-game,
regular-season record. The last time these teams played here in 1992, they set
a then-NCAA record of 18,147.
The attendance snafu occurred because the upper bowl was filled. There were
even fans sitting in the press box. The Palace decided to send the overflow
crowd to the lower seating areas about midway into the first period. Detroit
Pistons public relations director Matt Dobek said.
The fans that were turned away received tickets to an upcoming Pistons game.
