Sunday afternoon, game four of hockey*4 weekend found the Crimson
taking it to the nonleague Panthers. It would have been an excellent
game for the Harvard Men to watch, and see how the Harvard Women can
cover for rushing defenders without getting in any sort of panic!

Diana Clark (Holly Leitzes, Megan Hall) scored the opening goal for
the Crimson when she redirected Leitzes's shot/pass. AJ Mleczko
(Stacy Kellogg, Joey Alissi) made it 2-0 when she put away the final
rebound in a series of shots from a face-off. In the second period,
AJ (Kellogg, Alissi) scored on a turn and fire move. The play
developed from the opening face-off and a nice pass from the corner.
AJ (Kellogg, Alissi) made it 4-0 when she finished off a ton of
Harvard pressure by drilling her slot shot in off the post. Kellogg
(AJ) scored a power play goal when on a break in play she put in her
own rebound. AJ (Kellogg, Alissi) scored her fourth goal when again
she connected from the slot on a quick break in play. In the third
period, Kellogg scored the final goal after another series of Crimson
attacks. At that point, Harvard was playing so well they actually
had accidental rotation going. The passing and covering for each
other was superb.

Middlebury did not have very many players who could keep up with
Harvard. I liked the play of Laura Cowperthwait. She played wing,
but was the Panthers' strongest defender. Laurie Odden had a good
game as playmaker. She did not have a lot of options, but used what
she had well. Jen Hefner had several good rushes and was another
wing who got back to help out on D.

Harvard had another good match. The first line of AJ, Alissi and
Kellogg finally got it together. They worked several plays well. I
liked a face-off play they had of trying to hit Kellogg right in
front, directly from the drop. The passing was real strong. The
backing up of other teammates was marvelous. The outstanding player
of the game for the Crimson has to be AJ. She is a gifted goal
scorer. Her ability to get open is tremendous. I also liked the way
she glided her way into coverage at the point when needed. Joey
Alissi, back from a minor injury, played a strong passing and
skating game. She makes the first line click. Colleen Malek and
Holly Leitzes continued to provide the backdrop needed for their
mates to play. Lauren Turner and Alexis Boyle got some time on D
during the 2nd & 3rd periods. Both showed some good skills. The
second line was very lethargic. The third line was at less than full
power. Defender Winkie Mleczko had better get her act together as
she was beaten many times Sunday by the Middlebury break out play.
Overall, a good weekend for Harvard. They will need these skills and
more skating from everyone if they want to do well against the Big 6!
For now, nice going!
