I received my Hockey News NHL season preview issue today. In it
they ran an article about the European influnce on the NHL. In a sidebar
story which I won't quote, they ran the following chart.

System Players Goals
Indvidual Leader, % of total goals scored
Major Junior 315--57% Mario Lemieux (69) 55%
U.S. College 141--26% Kevin Stevens (55) 24%
Europe 89--16% T. Selanne, A Magilny (76) 19%

Actually these numbers shouldn't suprise anyone. Afterall 26% og the
players should score about the same amount of goals.
One other note, for some reason the only position they break down
is defenseman. 53% of the defenseman are from the junior ranks, 28% from
college an 28% from Europe.
I wonder what the breakdown is for forwards and goalies. Off the
top of my head I can only think of 5 colligent goalies and 1 european
goalie. Any ideas?

P.S. Mike was commenting on Glavine's elgibility for college hockey after
his retirement from baseball and I think that at least for Division I
there is an age limit because I remember a case of a basketball player who
wanted to play ball after he got out of the army but couldn't because he
was to old.
