In a game last night at Sockalexis Ice Arena on the Penobscot
Indian Reservation Maine and RPI skated to a 5 - 5 tie. Because
the teams had only two hours of ice time, there was no overtime
and the final period was shortened from 18 to 15 min. The teams
were fairly chippy, more so than I expected, but I haven't
enough experience watching women's hockey to know if this is the
norm or not. At other games I've been to the teams kept their
focus on hockey.

Maine seemed to have the better of the play most of the time.
Their passing was crisp and they set up and tried to work plays.
The RPI goaltender held her team in the game (no programs so I
don't know who anybody was. Also no PA system so I have no
report on scoring or penalties.)

Momentum shifts were sudden and extreme. I suspect this is the
nature of a club sport. As the second period was ending an
RPI player committed (and was called for) an infraction. The
aggrieved Maine player retaliated with a punch to the head
drawing a 5 min. major. Maine had been pressing, but they
lost all drive (even though the teams were 4 on 4) and watched
RPI score an easy goal. Fortunately the period ended and
during the brief intermission (also shortened and fresh ice
was not made to save time) Maine got their heads on straight.
The third period was well played.

About 30 or 40 fans were in attendance.
