The last 8 minutes of the first period doomed the Falcons Friday night
at Munn.
 
On Saturday, the refs were watching the Flames early on, obviously to
prevent another brawl. BG could not capitalize on its numerous power
plays, but did manage a short hander to end up leading 2-0 after one.
 
In the second, UIC's Trevor Mathias got a 5 minute spearing/DQ but BG
could only manage 1 power play goal over the next 5 minutes, and it
came 5-on-3.
 
The third was uneventful (scoring-wise), until the Flames spoiled Will
Clarke's shutout late in the game. Amazingly, the refs evened up the
penalties for the most part by the end.
 
Jon Hillebrandt was solid in net, stopping 90% of the shots for UIC.
Three of the four he allowed went between his legs. Two of those three
were break-aways.
 
There was a scuffle at the 14:15 mark of the final period, with each
team losing 2 players with 14 minutes per, and BG getting an extra 2:00
for good measure. For the last 5 minutes of the weekend, UIC was
without *6* players who had started the road trip (3 DQ for fighting
from the night before, 1 DQ spearing, 2 10-minute misconducts). I think
the Flames have a discipline problem........
