Scott Cashman turned away 37 shots while leading Boston University to
a 3-1 win over New Hampshire Friday night. New Hampshire's only goal
came early in the 1st period when Cashman got caught out of the net
when a deflected pass found its way to Wildcat Glenn Stewart. With
all 24 feet of net to shoot at, it was an easy goal.

The 2nd period belonged to BU, beginning with Mike Bavis's deflection
of Dan Donato's slapshot from the left point. UNH goaltender Brett
Abel had no chance. Seven minutes later, Abel was again victimized by
a deflection of Bob LaChance's shot from the blueline. It appeared to
be deflected by a UNH player who was trying to angle it up and out of
play. Instead, it was redirected just over Abel's shoulder and ended
up knocking his water bottle off the net as the Terriers took a 2-1
lead. Referee Leavitt made a bad call on UNH soon after, calling Eric
Flinton for charging into Cashman. What Leavitt didn't see was the BU
player that cross-checked him into Cashman. BU took advantage,
scoring only 16 seconds into the powerplay on Mike Pomichter's goal.

There was no scoring in the 3rd period. UNH squandered 45 seconds of
a 5-on-3 powerplay with about five minutes left.

The story for UNH was the powerplay -- 0-6, including 66 seconds of
5-on-3. They were not helped by the injury of leading scorer Rob
Donovan. Donovan broke his collarbone on his first shift of the
evening, and is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks. BU had five players
suspended by coach Jack Parker for the game, reportedly for breaking
curfew.
