A crowd of 5447 fans showed up tonight and were treated to yet
another UMaine rout as the Black Bears completed the sweep of the
Northeastern Huskies. It took little time for Maine to get things
going,as Mike Latendresse scored unassisted just 39 seconds into the
game. Cal Ingraham got his first of the evening at 4:34 (P. Ferraro
Paul Kariya) (PPG) to stake Maine to an early 2-0 lead. Northeastern
fought back as Francois Bouchard scored at 10:41 (Danny McGillis,

Jordan Shields) (PPG),but Paul Kariya notched his 12th goal of the
season at 13:12 and Maine had the 2-goal cushion back. Ingraham
scored with just 18 seconds left in the period and UMaine took a 4-1
     to the locker room.

Maine Captain Jim Montgomery scored his 6th of the season off a
beautiful feed from...Paul Kariya. Dan Lupo broke away while Maine
was on the powerplay and notched a rare SHG against Maine at 4:49 and
Maine led 5-2. Freshman Brad Purdie scored his second goal of his
career at 8:12, assisted by Paul Kariya and Jim Montgomery. Ingraham

completed another hat trick(I believe that is now 4 on the season for
Cal) assisted by Montgomery and(this is the last time,I promise) Paul
     Kariya.

The third period was all Maine as Chris Ferraro scored 2 goals, his
10th and 11th,Dave McIssac got his third and Lee Saunders added another
last second goal with just 14 seconds left, his 4th of the season.

                (ok,I lied)
In all,Paul Kariya had a goal and 5 assists(tying the UMaine game
assist record shared with Chris Ferraro and All-American Andre Aubut)
giving him a total of 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points.

The Bears dominated this game from start to finish. The offensive
pressure kept the Huskies off balance and they were unable to get any
momentum. Maine had a HUGE advantage in power plays, collecting 9 to
Northeastern's 6,but the real advantae was that UMaine had 2 5-3
situations and a 4-3 powerplay, which accounted for 2 of the early

goals, and kept Northeastern bottled up in the defensive zone.

Maine improves to 13-0-1(8-0-1 HE) while Northeastern drops to
6-5-0 (4-3-0). Next up for Maine is a non-conference game in Portland,
ME vs. UNH,and then to Lowell on Saturday.

Some bad news for the Bears. Senior standout Eric Fenton(2 goals
last night,12 for the season) will be out until mid-January,missing
all of the Holiday Tournaments Maine plays in. So,now the Bears will

be without Freshman Phenoms Paul Kariya and the Ferraro twins and
Fenton as well with the possibility of 2 matchups with the defending
     Champion LSSU Lakers looming.

The opinions expressed above are mine. Some will agree. Many will not.
But then, some people are wise, while many are foolish. Think about it.
