Hmm, maybe she'll give you a championship ring (NOT!)

As I recall, Grant was one of those solid, dependable, but not very flashy
forwards. He was center on Colgate's third or fourth line, and while he wasn't
the scoring threat that teammates like Marc Dupere or Jamie Cooke were, Slater
was a good two-way player. If he can coach that, the Red Raiders will benefit
quite a bit, since defense was an area they needed some help in last season.

I dug out the _Post Standard_ article that Mike mentioned, and in it, Grant
was quoted as saying he wasn't interested at first in following in his
father's footsteps. Apparently, Terry was a very intense coach, to the point
where he was almost totally unable to kick back and relax in the off-season,
and seeing his father like that turned Grant off to coaching, and to hockey
in general, for a while. However, when new Colgate head coach Don Vaughan
offered him the assistant position, Grant said he felt that this was a good
way to get re-involved with the sport, so he accepted. Slater's hiring has
been denounced as a move to pacify "certain people" (alumni) who were not
happy with the decision to dump interim head coach Brian Durocher; Vaughan
denies that charge.

Incidentally, the other assistant coach under Vaughan will be former Provi-
dence assistant Stan Moore.
