Two members of last year's All-Academic team return with first-team honors
again this season:  Michigan State's Mike Gilmore and Bowling Green's Angelo
Libertucci.  BGSU's Dan Bylsma received honorable mention honors a year ago
and was selected to the first team this year.
 
Mike Gilmore becomes just the ninth player in CCHA history to have been a
three-time member of the CCHA All-Academic Team.  The previous three-time
winners were Michigan State's Walt Bartels and Bob Essensa, Bowling Green's
Alan Leggett, Tim Hack and George McPhee, Ohio State's Paul Pooley, Lake
Superior's Steve Mulholland and Northern Michigan's Eric Ponath.
 
The All-Academic team is voted on by the Faculty Representatives from each of
the nine member institutions, considering both academic and athletic
achievement.  Those players receiving the top six vote totals are honored as
First-Team members, with all other vote getters receiving Honorable Mention
honors.
 
The All-Academic honorees will be recognized at the Eighth Annual CCHA Awards
Banquet to be held in the Columbus Ballroom of The Westin Hotel on March 20,
1992.  Also presented at the banquet will be the CCHA Player, Rookie and
Coach-Of-The-Year winners.

Two individuals, Lake Superior netminder Darrin Madeley and Michigan forward
Denny Felsner, are repeat first team performers from last season.  LSSU
defenseman Mark Astley went from last year's second team to this season's
first team.  Bowling Green's Martin Jiranek, a forward, was selected to the
second team for 1991-92 after being an honorable mention selection for
1990-91.
 
Only two of the second team honorees (excluding Jiranek) received votes in the
1990-91 all league balloting (Peter Holmes and Sandy Moger).  The three other
honorees (Steve Barnes, Joe Cook and Jon Hillebrandt) were all newcomers to
the CCHA all league selections.
 
Two honorable mention selections (Michigan's David Oliver and Aaron Ward) were
members of the 1990-91 CANSTAR CCHA All-Rookie squad.  MSU goalie Mike Gilmore
received second team honors a year ago as did Michigan defenseman Patrick
Neaton.  Bryan Smolinski (MSU) and Craig Brown (WMU) each received league
honors for the first time.
 
Rookie, Coach and Player-Of-The-Year awards will be presented at the Eighth
Annual CCHA Awards Banquet on Friday, March 20, 1992 in the Columbus Ballroom
of The Westin Hotel in Detroit.  Tickets ($20.00) are available by calling the
Joe Louis Arena Box Office at (313) 567-7500 (Visa/Mastercard/Discover), or at
the door on the night of the banquet.
