SCSU's Westcott Gains USCHO National Player of the Week Honors
St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State University defenseman Duvie Westcott
(Winnipeg, Manitoba), who was instrumental at both ends of the ice in the
Huskies' two-game conference sweep of MSU, Mankato on Feb. 23-24, has been
honored as the U.S. College Hockey Online's (USCHO) Division I Defensive
player of the week for games played on Feb. 23-24.
Westcott also gained WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors for his work
against MSU, Mankato.
A 5-11, 195-pounder, Westcott topped all WCHA players over the weekend with
six scoring points, totalled 10 shots on goal, earned a +4 on-ice rating,
and helped hold the visiting Mavericks to just one power play goal in 14
opportunities as SCSU locked up at least a share of third place in the
league race.
Last Friday (Feb. 23) evening at the NHC, Westcott scored two goals
including the eventual game winner and set up another as the Huskies
prevailed 6-2. Then on Feb. 24, Westcott came back with three assists -
setting up teammate Tyler Arnason's eventual game winner in the second
period. The 6-3 victory pushed the Huskies' school record win total this
year to 25.
Westcott currently ranks third among WCHA defenders in scoring overall this
season with eight goals, 19 assists and 27 points.
This weekend, the #6 Huskies will play at #4 Minnesota on March 2, and on
March 3, the two teams will play at St. Cloud State.
