HUSKIES WIN, TIE WITH BEMIDJI STATE - The St. Cloud State women's ice
hockey team defeated the Bemidji State Beavers Friday night in a high
scoring WCHA match-up, 8-6, at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji.  The
Huskies Bridget Davenport (Madison, WI) opened the scoring spree with her
second goal of the season, at 5:51 of the first period.  SCSU had a 3-2
lead going into the second period when Roxanne Stang (Princeton) netted her
13th goal this season.  Bemidji's Jenna Grimsrud scored back-to-back power
play goals to tie the game, but Stang's second goal of the game goal at
16:05 gave the Huskies the lead again.  Erin McNamara (Macomb, MI) started
the third period off with a goal at 2:32.  The Beavers scored the next two
goals to tie the game at 6-6, but first-year defender Kobi Kawamoto
(Surrey, BC) answered with the game winning goal at 8:34.  Junior
defender/forward Fiona McLeod (Toronto, Ont.) sealed the game at 15:37,
netting her sixth goal of the season.  On Saturday night, Stang, McNamara
and Ricki-Lee Doyle (Calgary, Alberta) scored the first three goals of the
game.  Bemidji State's Amber Fryklund and Lisa Peters brought the Beavers
within a goal, but Stang increased the lead to 4-2 heading into the second
intermission.  The Huskies were scoreless in the third as the Beavers took
over and tied the game at 13:27 with a goal from  Lill Raynard.  The
Huskies out-shot the Beavers on the weekend 90-55. Goalies Laura Gieselman
(Annandale) and Ellen Brinkman (N. St. Paul) combined for 45 saves on the
weekend.  St. Cloud State is 12-10-2 overall; 8-6-2 in the WCHA, placing
them fourth in the league.  Bemidji State is 6-15-1 overall, 4-11-1 in the
WCHA (6th place).  The Huskies are off this coming weekend, but return to
action February 2-3 with a non-conference series against Cornell at the
National Hockey Center.  Face-off is set for 3:05 p.m.

HEAD COACH: Kerry Brodt Wethington is in her third season as the head coach
for the women's hockey program at St. Cloud State. She joined the staff in
1998-99, and is the first women's hockey coach in the history of the
program at SCSU Brodt Wethington is a 1995 graduate of SCSU. She is also a
coach for the U.S. Community Olympic Development Program for girls ice
hockey and the founder and director of the Skater's Link Hockey Clinic.

ASSISTANT COACHING STAFF: David Prokop is the first-ever assistant coach
hired for the SCSU women's hockey team. He joined the staff in1998-99, and
since that time has been one of the team's top recruiters.  Prokop
graduated with a bachelors degree from Concordia College in Moorhead Jean
Vaillancourt joined the staff at SCSU in 1999-2000. He brings a varied
hockey background to the SCSU program, having coached both men and women in
Ontario. Vaillancourt earned a degree in Human Kinetics form the University
of Ottawa in 1997.

THE OPPONENTS: Cornell, a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference
(D-I) is currently 6-10-1 overall and 4-9-1 in the ECAC.  The Big Red,
which has 14 returning players and  six newcomers, are led by senior
forward Erica Olson (7-7=14) and junior forward  Jenel Bode (2-10=12).  At
the helm for Cornell is Carol Mullins. Mullins begins her third season with
the Big Red.  In two years at Cornell, Mullins has produced a 28-30-1
record.

2000-01 TEAM CAPTAINS: The team captains for the 2000-01 season are junior
defenders Tara McNamara and assistant captain Katy Battis.

LIVE FROM KVSC: KVSC 88.1 FM will broadcast two remaining games this season
for the Huskies. KVSC will be at the Huskies February 16th game at 7:05
p.m., and February 17th at 3:05 p.m. against MN-Duluth at the National
Hockey Center. If you can't make it to the game, be sure to tune in!

SCSU RANKINGS:  Doyle and McLeod lead the Huskies in almost every scoring
category in the conference.  In 16 league games played, Doyle is tied for
second in the WCHA in points scored (16-14=30) and McLeod is fourth
(5-24=29).  Doyle is second again in goals scored (16), averaging one goal
a game. McLeod leads the conference in assists (24); not far behind is
Doyle in seventh place with 14 assists.  Doyle and McLeod are ranked second
and third in power play points scored, (8-6=14, 1-11=12) respectively.
Leading the defense in scoring is McLeod (5-24=29), and Kawamoto (8-11=19)
is currently in third.

HUSKY INFO:   Junior defender and assistant captain Katy Battis (W. St.
Paul) returned to action January 5 against Niagara after missing 14 games
with a grade 2 MCL strain which she suffered Oct. 20 against
MSU-Mankato Amanda Mathison also returned to the Huskies line-up after
being sidelined since Nov. 10 with a head injury Sophomore forward Kirsten
Olson has transferred to Gustavus Adulphus for the spring semester the
February 23rd game against Ohio State will begin at 3:05 p.m., not at 4:05
p.m. as originally scheduled  The Huskies earned their first wins of the
2000-2001 season with double wins on Oct. 20-21 against MSU-Mankato, 5-1
and 6-1 two current SCSU players have played all three season of Husky
hockey - Tara McNamara and Sondra Diaz-Arntzen.  McNamara has appeared in
all 80 of the games played at St. Cloud State in two and a half seasons.

1999-2000 SEASON WRAP: Finishing atop the scoring chart for SCSU was
sophomore forward Fiona McLeod, who scored 18 goals and 12 assists for 30
points in 1999-2000.  McLeod's 30 points makes her the all-time leading
scorer in the short history of SCSU women's hockey Finishing just behind
McLeod in scoring was first year forward Jennifer Swanson, who tallied 11
goals and 18 assists for 29 points..  Other leading scorers for SCSU were
sophomore Amanda Presenger (8-10=18), first year forward Abby Cooper
(9-6=15), first year forward Erin McNamara (7-10=17), and junior forward
Rachel Denner (9-4=13).
