Women's Hockey's Hunter Named WCHA Player of the Week

Madison, Wis. - The WCHA office announced today that freshman center
Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.) has been named Wisconsin's first
WCHA Player of the Week for the 2000-01 season. Hunter becomes the
sixth UW women's hockey player in two years to earn the distinction.
        Hunter had a part in 10 of the Badgers' 12 goals in their
weekend home sweep over St. Cloud State. The frosh notched the team's
first hat trick of the season while adding two assists in the UW's 6-2
win over the Huskies on Friday. Hunter came back on Saturday in a
repeat performance with five-points and her second hat trick. All
three goals came in a 6:06 span of the second period, including her
first career game-winning goal. She added two assists in the contest
to up her weekend point total to 10. Hunter also fired 13 shots and
had a +9 rating in the two-game series.
        With her performance, Hunter grabbed the conference and
national scoring lead with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points.
She also leads the conference with five power-play goals and shares
the lead with six power-play points.
        Hunter and the seventh-ranked Badgers (5-1-0, 3-1-0 WCHA)
travel to Cambridge, Mass., and Providence, R.I. this Saturday and
Sunday for a pair of 1 p.m. CST contests. The Badgers face No. 5
Harvard on Saturday before visiting No. 4 Brown on Sunday.
