For those of you who have an interest in shopping, restaurants, great places
to meet, etc., or need directions... e-mail me.

California was home for 35 years. I'll be there that week on business and to
catch Van Gogh at the LACAM. For those interested in art, you probably can
still pick up tickets to view his collection. Certainly, many of his earlier
pencil or charcoal drawings have never been seen outside of Antwerp.

There are some great places to eat and shop in Newport, Dana Point, Laguna
Beach. Try not to miss Balboa Island in Newport. The Island is famous for
frozen bananas covered with chocolate and nuts.

If you're into water sports, you can rent a board at a local surf shop and
test your equilibrium in front of Laguna's Ritz Carlton. The beach is
outstanding. Stop into the hotel for a drink. The bar overlooks the ocean and
is memorable! Newport Beach has two large centers. Fashion Island in Newport
has a central dinning core that is surrounded by dozens of food vendors; it's
the place to shop and eat. Nike has a super store in Newport that is very
atypical west coast--humongous and BRIGHT. There are some unparalleled waves
in Oceanside, a bit to the south of Newport. For the real surfers among you
there is the Rincon right before Santa Barbara. If you have time to make it
that far north, Santa Barbara's State Street, the pier, and the histroical
tours are a must. Try to make a trip to the coi fisheries too.
