I'm sure Mike will remember better than me (a herd of elephants have
nothing on Mr Machnik's memory banks), but I believe this happened 2-3
seasons ago in a BU-Lowell game.

Tried to crawl through the HOCKEY-L archives but alas, the BU recaps are
not as plentiful as I wish they'd be <frown>, so here's the best I can
remember:

I believe it happened during the 1995-1996 season, when the BU-Lowell
series suddenly became a BIG deal -- this was the year BU was #1 in the
country going into a home-and-home series with Lowell, just before the
beanpot and was swept by the Riverhawks.

It was either the first period or early second. On a delayed penalty call,
Tom Noble was pulled out of the net. Chris Drury carried the puck behind
the Lowell net, guarded by Fillion. Spotting the 6th skater coming on to
the ice (don't remember who it was), he sent a fast, hard pass straight up
the center towards the onrushing shooter.

The puck skipped and bobbled along the ice, and hopped right over the blade
of the BU player as he tried to stop and settle the puck. It sailed right
down the ice into the BU net for the Lowell goal.

The odd thing was that normally you'd expect that watching that puck slide
allll the way down the ice would make time slow down, that it would be an
eternity to wait and see if the puck made it into the net. Not this time --
it all happened so fast, and with the crowd in a frenzy you almost didn't
notice it.

There was an especially delayed reaction on the ice, as neither team even
thought about the possibility of a goal at the other end. I remember
noticing both benches reacting before the guys on the ice or most in the
stands did.
