The Sioux completely dominated the Gophers for 7/8 of the game, but
came away only with a 4-2 victory.

The Sioux had boat-loads of opportunities, and if not for a few
wide-open nets missed, and DeBus standing on his head, it should have
been 6-1 at the 10:00 minute mark of the first period! Blake gets a
power play goal at 0:49 From Dave Hoogsteen and Jeff Panzer.
Hankinson ties it up for MN at 4:56 on the power play from Kraft.
Mitch Vig nets the go-ahead at 16:18 from Jason Ulmer.
2-1 Sioux at the end of one.

Sioux domination continued into the first half of the second period.
But, DeBus was outstanding, and the Sioux just couldn't quite bury
their chances. Woog called time out midway through the 2nd period...
and it ended up being a really great move. The Gophers were reeling
and barely treading water. If not for DeBus, it could've been ugly.
But after the timeout, the Gophers held the upper hand for most of the
remainder of the period...even stiffling the Sioux through nearly 6
minutes of continuous power play toward the end of the period. Then
to add insult to injury, Nate Miller nets the tying goal at 18:35.
2-2 at the end of two.

The Sioux came out flying again in the 3rd and dominated the first
half of the period again. Jay Panzer gets the eventual game winner
about a third of the way through. Both teams were getting pretty
tired toward the end of the match, and Minnesota especially was using
little tricks to get an extra 30-40 seconds of rest. They would show
up late for face offs, and make late line changes. With about a
minute-thirty left, the even swapped goaltenders (DeBus out/Marvin in)
to get an extra minute or so.

Jason Ulmer gets the empty netter with about 4 seconds left to ice the
     game at 4-2.

Much closer game than it should have been, but credit to the Gophers
who never gave up, and credit to DeBus for a stellar performance in
     the loss.

But alas, as is the common thread lately, officiating was again a
problem. Many very iffy calls...especially early on in the game. The
first penalty was at 0:35! But, with this bitter rivalry, I can
understand why the officials would not want this one to get out of
hand. But, Mike Schmidt had some trouble...calling the little-bitty
penalties, but letting some big stuff go. The only good thing was
that it ended up being fairly equal in the Goof-Up department.
Two non-calls resulted directly in goals...which should NEVER happen.
But, it was one for each team. Oh well..........

Sioux were 1-7 on the power play...Minnesota 2-7.

Some concern with Dave Hoogsteen...he left during the second period
with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Post-game reports
indicated that it may be a collarbone. He went to the hospital for a
     check.

That would be a bad blow to the Sioux, and to Hoogsteen.

     Same two teams Sunday Afternoon...

GO SIOUX...MAKE IT 2!! (2 Nat'l Titles and 2 wins vs the Gophers!)
