It's also interesting to point out of the examples you listed, only one
year did the team from the more "populous" region win the title -- North
Dakota last year. Also Wisconsin did not make the Final 4 in 1993 - they
lost to Michigan in OT at Joe Louis on a goal by David Roberts. (grr)
Michigan State was not the other Michigan team in that year -- Lake St was.
You omitted Maine. To my knowledge, there have been three WCHA teams in
the Final 4 before (maybe even 4?) -- at least once, not sure of the year.

>That all depends upon what you mean by "region". If you mean simply "east" or
>"west", it's been a fairly common occurence in the 90s: 1990 (BU, BC,
>Colgate),
>1991 (BU, Maine, Clarkson), 1993 (Michigan, Michigan State, Lake Superior,
>Wisconsin), and 1997 (Michigan, Colorado College, North Dakota). This was
>also the case at least once in the 80s (1986; I don't have a source right
>handy
>to check for others). If you mean more narrowly than that, 1993, with three
>Michigan teams, is the only one that I can think of. I'm pretty sure that's
>the only time that one conference has put three teams into the final four.
