I am not an RPI insider (nor do I play one on TV), but my guess on this would
be "No way." The RPI Invitational is, I believe, the oldest invitational
tourna- ment in college hockey (a year younger than the Beanpot, which is not
an invitational), and I think that tradition is strong enough that RPI isn't
going to break it. In recent years, there has been occasional difficulty
filling slots for the RPI tourney, forcing them to invite a Div. III team one
year and a Canadian team another. I would consider this proof of the efforts
being made to keep the tourney around, as normally when a tournament starts
having trouble getting teams to play in it, it disappears.
