        Well, you could do just what the CCHA does: three games
against each other team in the league, and only 8 teams make the
playoffs.  (The ECAC has adopted the cockamamie Final Five format, so
someone will carry that torch.)  But 11 teams in each of the Western
leagues is probably unstable, and the prospect may lend credence to
the current round of realignment/reunification rumors.
