An excellent, insightful post by William Corrigan. I just wanted to point
out a couple of things, because I always prefer to see credit where credit
is due...

> But following a stoppage in play in the Brown defensive zone at 18:35,
>Cornell called a time out and came back to the ensuing face-off with
>goaltender Jason Elliott on the bench in favor of a sixth attacker.

This was actually a Brown time-out. Cornell pulled Elliott, and my
suspicion is that Brown wasn't prepared for the Big Red to try that with so
much time left in the game, so they needed to talk it over. Cornell's
time-out was after they had taken the lead. This was one of the other
unusual things about the switch in leaders; not only did both teams pull
their goalies in this game, but both teams called time-outs when the
*other* team had chosen to pull their goalie.

> Then, after the ensuing neutral ice face-off, with Lynah in a state of
>absolute bedlam, Cornell's Kyle Knopp gained control of the puck in center
>ice, skated to the right point and let go a rising shot which seemed
>destined to go over the Brown net but hit a defenseman's pad and caromed
>down into the net at a sharp angle past the startled Holowaty who could not
>have anticipated the deflection in time to make his 43rd save of the game.

It was actually Jeff Burgoyne who gained control in center ice and skated
to the point... Kyle Knopp was credited with the goal because it appeared
that Burgoyne's rising shot caromed off of Knopp's stick. I'd be
interested in seeing the tape of that goal; Knopp was directly in between
me and Holowaty, so I was pretty surprised when the goal was called!

Those details aside, I agree that Brown played an extremely tough game. I
wouldn't go so far as to say that Cornell didn't "deserve" this win - after
all, they managed an amazing comeback. But Brown outplayed Cornell for
most of the game, and it was encouraging from the standpoint of Brown's
last couple of seasons. Holowaty's one of the most talented netminders in
the ECAC, and I look forward to seeing him again in Providence in February.
