The College Hockey Computer Rating uses a connected schedule graph and a
least squares optimization to rate the 45 Division I college hockey teams.
This method considers a team's opponents, and their opponents, etc., until
all 387 Division I games are included.

In addition to rating the teams, a strength of schedule is calculated for
each team. The schedule strength can be computed by averaging the ratings
of a team's opponents for each game.

For every game, the teams are evaluated based on: the outcome (win, lose,
tie); the margin of victory; percentage of goals allowed; the site of the
game (home, away, neutral ice); and overtime or regulation time.

Only games against other Division I teams are considered.

Notes for 1/11/92

The top 4 teams maintained their rankings from last week, but they each
lost some rating points. Michigan fell 3.51, Lake Superior 2.36, Minnesota
0.57 and Northern Michigan 1.30.

Boston University sits atop a group of teams, from 8th to 13th, which are
separated by less than 1 rating point. BU's huge jump to 8th is due in part
to its win, but the collapse of others in the group helped, too. Western
Michigan, North Dakota and St. Lawrence all lost a game and Alaska-Anchorage
tied Kent.

Clarkson's schedule improved from 39.19 to 40.77, but a loss and a tie
dropped its rating from 62.99 to 60.26.

Ferris State continues to have the strongest schedule, but Minnesota-Duluth
(who played Minnesota) took over #2 from Michigan Tech (who played St. Cloud).

Alaska-Fairbanks' win Saturday at Alabama-Huntsville re-solidified its hold
on the #2 Independent spot. After the Friday results (which included a UAH
6-1 thrashing of UAF), UAH was only 0.45 rating points behind UAF. Now, the
Nanooks are 5.39 points ahead.

Notre Dame's schedule rocketed from 44th (39.17) last week to 26th (47.50)
after playing #1-rated Michigan twice. Although the Irish stayed at #41,
their good showing against the Wolverines increased their rating by 5.67.

Union's first Division I point helped them to move up 2 spots to #43.
