JOHN MARCHETTI NAMED WOMEN'S HOCKEY COACH
Former Yale Assistant Returns To New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- John Marchetti, who guided Providence College to
more than 250 wins and five ECAC titles in 14 years, has been named
head coach of women's hockey at Yale, Athletic Director Tom Beckett
   announced today.

"John Marchetti brings a very strong head coaching background to this
appointment," Beckett said. "We are pleased that John has joined the
Yale coaching staff, and we look forward to working with him to build
our women's hockey program into an Ivy League championship contender."

A 1971 graduate of Providence, Marchetti compiled a 262-69-15 overall
record as the head women's hockey coach at his alma mater from
   1980-94. His 1991-92 team won a school-record 22 games and captured
the ECAC Tournament. In 1993, Marchetti was named AWHCA Coach of the
Year after the Friars went 21-5-3 and won their third straight ECAC
crown. In all, he led PC to seven 20-win seasons and 12 appearances in
   the ECAC Tournament.

This will be Marchetti's second tour of duty at Yale. He was an
assistant coach for the Bulldogs in 1995-96. He also has experience on
the international level, serving as an assistant coach for the U.S.
women's national team at the 1994 World Championships and the 1993
Olympic Festival. This past winter, he was a volunteer assistant at
Northeastern, and in 1995 he was a game video analyst for the Anaheim
   Mighty Ducks.

"It's exciting to be returning to Yale," Marchetti said. "I'm looking
forward to continuing to rebuild the women's hockey program."

Marchetti inherits a team that finished 4-23-0 overall last year. He
replaces Joe Snecinski, who resigned in March.

Marchetti is an excellent coach and I look for Yale to improve
tremendously over the next few years.
