It looks like the Wisconsin Badgers will not be playing any games at the
new Kohl Center during the 1997-98 season.
The athletic department is having some second thoughts about it for a
number of reasons. First, as the new center will open in January?, they
want to give the facility and the facility people time to adjust before
doing the basketball/hockey switchover thing. Baby steps at first I
guess.
Second, the Athletic Dept. is still negotiating with Dane County to buy
out the Hockey contract, which has the Badgers playing at the Great Dane
through 2007 I think.
Third, the 1998-99 season opens (tentativly) against Minnesota here in
Madison, and UW hosts the Collge Hockey Showcase/Series in November of
that year which are all almost guaranteed sellouts. $MONEY$MONEY$MONEY$
of course.
I got all of this from a number of articles in the Madison papers over
the last month or two.
