I don't know if this is meant to refer to Union...if so, RPI fans should
remember three years ago when their team lost to Union - and that Union led
RPI 4-1 this year.  I would not be surprised to see RPI lose at Union in
a few weeks.  If anyone takes Union lightly, it will be a mistake.

By your description, the play was called correctly.  Rule 2-6d states that
the whistle shall not be blown until the injured player's team gains
possession.  If it obvious that a player has sustained a serious injury,
the referee or linesman may stop play immediately, but it is subjective.
It sounds like RPI never had possession since SLU went in to score.
 
In the earlier play you describe where the whistle was apparently blown for
an injured SLU player, perhaps the official determined SLU had possession.
 
Also, the official can hold off on the whistle if the injured player's team
has possession at the time of the injury and they are in "a scoring position",
again unless the official determines a serious injury to have occurred.
