With another (especially) strong weekend behind them, Union is
looking not just to make the payoffs, but for home ice in the
ECACs.

Friday night's win over Vermont puts another exclamation point on
the season. I had a good feeling before this game, considering the
way Union played in their previous game with Vermont this year, a
1-0 loss. Union's defense did the job in shutting down the French
Connection - Perrin & St. Louis. As the game wore on, the entire
Union team had difficulty standing, much less skating. But, the Vermont
forwards couldn't get a decent shot on goal. This made Trevor Koenig's
night a little easier. In Saturday's Albany Times Union, Koenig
said that this wasn't his shutout, it was the team's shutout. He
couldn't have been more corect. Union showed a lot of heart and
determination in not giving in to the mighty Catamounts.

This win, bundled with wins against Clarkson, Princeton, RPI, their
first-ever at Harvard, and a come-from-behind win against Brown, has
shown everyone that this team will not give up, nor be intimidated by
anyone.

Union has their final two home games next weekend against Cornell and
Colgate - yet another challenge. However, the way Union has played
this year, I don't think this will really bother them. If they come
out on Friday night and just play their normal defensive game, we may
just see another upset. But, since they'll be playing Cornell, I'm not
predicting an upset. ;-)

For the 13 seniors on this team, it would only be a perfect going-away
present with a home playoff game. Union is only 3 points out of 4th
place, so it's not out of the question at all.
