Some of you may have missed an article in the Boston papers that WNDS-TV
out of Derry, NH was sold to a firm who intends to run home shopping
programming on the station about 2/3 the time, reruns and mandatory
children's programming the remainder.

Looks as though Mass-Lowell's off the TV screen next year as well as the
Hockey East cancellation by NESN. Our options for viewing college hockey
around the Boston area are rapidly becoming more limited. More incentive
for SportsChannel New England to step up (or step in, whatever the
metaphor) and take over coverage, as I had suggested in an earlier post.

Has anyone in the Mass-Lowell community heard about the school's plans for
TV coverage next year, or any word they may have obtained from WNDS about
this change in ownership and it's effect upon future hockey coverage ?

BTW, all in the college hockey community should be saddened by the passing
of former Sen. Paul Tsongas, who was instrumental in rallying the necessary
political support behind the construction in Lowell of a new stadium for
the use of Mass-Lowell and the new AHL franchise coming to the area.

For those of you not in the Boston area, the political forces in our
Legislature deliberated for a much longer time before agreeing to build
facilities in Amherst (the Mullins Center vs. the old Field House) or the
eternity it took to grant air rights for construction of the new Garden.
Lowell, it seems in comparison, got "built in a day". Perhaps those at
Lowell have more insight on this, also.
