Although the home teams seem to have done a little better this weekend, there
are still some strange occurrences throughout the ECAC.

First, who would have thought that Vermont, the same team that was #1 in the
nation just three short weeks ago, would be in a three way tie for eighth in
the ECAC along with the likes of SLU and Dartmouth? Dartmouth...yes the same
Dartmouth that put away the Catamounts on Friday night.

Second, who would have thought that Princeton and Yale would both be on the
upper half of the league? Princeton remains in second place despite a hard
fought battle with Cornell for first place. The Bulldogs are holding on to
sixth place with their 2-2-1 record, including wins over Clarkson and Cornell.

Third, what's going on with Harvard and Brown? Is it something in the water
over there?

Fourth, can Clarkson decide whether or not it wants to be a slow starter or can
they just not win the second game of a series? They beat Princeton
convincingly on a Friday, only to lose to Yale on Saturday. They scored three
in the first 2:25 against SLU in their only game the next weekend. Finally,
last weekend they powdered RPI with 21 first period shots and 3 goals, only to
skate in their sleep for the final two periods against RPI and the first 2
against Union. Is there conditioning a problem?

Finally, I've only seen two college hockey games thus far this season. I saw a
team with a lot of determination and desire play a hardfought battle to rebound
from a loss the previous night. Yes, it was Army returning to down Mankato
St. I also saw an excellent hockey team with a lot of individual potential
play for one period and rest on their laurels apparently satisfied with their
first period efforts. With the exception of a very few: Dan Murphy, Buddy
Wallace, Jan Turgeon, J.F. Houle, Clarkson was less than lackluster on Friday
evening after the first. Even as a very satisfied Clarkson alum on Friday
night, I would have rather seen Army's 8-0 loss to U-Mass. I hope someone
wakes them up for BU / BC this weekend.
