Facetious or not, this should NEVER have been posted.
When I saw the subject line, my heart froze; I was truly afraid that a
Michigan player had been seriously hurt and that a Michigan State player was
responsible.
Obviously, that was not the case.
But even the moment's worry wasn't necessary.
I am going to take Steve Bartley (and other posters) at his word about the
style of play against Michigan the last three games.
I saw this happen in the late '80s at Michigan State when the Spartans'
talent was superior to every other team in the CCHA.
The referees have a responsibility (I'll repeat that for my friends Bill
Beagan, Dave Fisher and Jeff Weiss) -- THE REFEREES HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY --
to protect the better players in the league.
The Morrisons.
The Carters.
The Holzingers.
Michigan overall has a team with tremendous talent.
If you love college hockey, you have to love the way Michigan plays hockey
(even if you don't like Michigan).
Michigan can take care of itself. Look at its victory Friday night without
four regulars.
But is that what the CCHA wants?
The referees must control the cheap stuff or else no one is going to get to
enjoy the real pleasures of the game.
I have a lot of faith in Dave Fisher, so I'm going to predict that the cheap
stuff is going to stop.
But Dave: Get it done before someone really does get seriously hurt
(although someone already has: Greg Crozier).
And Steve Bartley: Don't post phony subject lines please. Thanks.

Ref Shegos lost control of the game on Friday night and in a free for all
fight that started in the second period, a UM player was seriously injured
from breaking his neck by being hit from behind with a stick.

NO this did not happen. However, the way that I've seen the last 3 games
refereed at Yost Ice Arena, it' s only a matter of time before some hockey
player gets seriously injured because the refs cannot control the game. All
3
games were poorly "reffed" to say the least. For that matter, 2 players
have
suffered broken bones already in one of the games I've seen.
