Summary:

Clarkson remained unbeaten in the ECAC with an easy 6-1 win over the
overmatched Union College Skating Dutchmen at Cheel Arena Friday
night. Union played well late in the game, but a 5-0 deficit midway
through the 2nd period was too much to overcome against the Nationally
Ranked Golden Knights.

Both teams had a few early scoring chances, but both goaltenders
started strong. But after three or four minutes, Clarkson was
thouroughly outskating the Dutchmen, and they got on the board at 4:29
on a goal from Conroy. From then on Clarkson dominated the period,
scoring two more times. First when Hugo Belanger got past Union
defenseman Alex MacLellan, and again when Dubinsky came in on a
breakaway, beating Mike Gallant to make it 3-0. Clarkson outshout
Union 11-5 in the period.

Union got a few good chances on an early second period power play, but
the Clarkson defense and goaltender Jason Currie were able to keep the
shutout going. At 5:09, Tim Cregan took a roughing penalty behind the
play, and it took the Knights less than a minute to take advantage.
About 2 minutes later, Clarkson took a 5-0 lead on a goal from Sabo.
By midway through the 2nd period, things were looking very bad for
Union. They were down 5-0, and being outshot by better than 2-1. But
a Clarkson penalty at 10:44 seemed to give the Dutchmen new life.
They had some good scoring chances, and were able to skate with the
Knights. By the end of the period, each team had 13 shots on goal.

Union came out very strong in the 3rd period. Luigi Villa, who
replaced Gallant at the beginning of the period, played well. Union
finally was able to score on Currie when freshman Chris Albert notched
his first Collegiate goal at 4:02, with assists from Dalton Menhall
and Jayson Flowers. Union continued to play well, but they couldn't
get another shot by Currie. Green scored at 15:02 for Clarkson when
the Union defense gave up the puck behind their own net to give
Clarkson a 6-1 lead. Union outshot Clarkson in the period, 10-9, to
make the game totals for shots on goal 32-28 in favor of Clarkson.
Jason Currie finished with 27 saves for Clarkson. Clarkson also has
killed off 19 of 20 opposition power plays after holding Union
scoreless on 5 power plays.

Union falls to 0-4-0 in the ECAC and 1-5-0 overall. In the other
North Country game, St. Lawrence beat RPI, 8-4. Tonight, Union plays
at St. Lawrence and RPI plays at Clarkson. Following the SLU game,
the Union players will go on break until the RPI Tournament December
27.
