Just a point of clarification: the GLI has *two* host teams, not three.
Michigan Tech and the University of Michigan are the tournament hosts;
Michigan State just "happens" to get invited every year (well, for the
last 18 years, anyways! :-) I made a couple posts on this subject
back in January for anyone interested in the politics involved (just
use the HOCKEY-L search engine for postings by me with GLI in the
subject).

I think it's safe to say that MSU will be an "always invited" team
for the forseeable future, since the "green and white" contingent
at GLI has always been the largest in the 17 years I've attended.
Without the support provided by MSU fans, the tournament would
not be financially viable in its current form (just my opinion,
but I doubt there's much disagreement).
