I couldn't agree more that Dr. Shouldice was instrumental in laying the
groundwork for the Lake State hockey program of today. He had a tremendous
knack for raising money and gaining downstate support for a small school in
the UP which many would have preferred to ignore. While Pullar Arena had a
homey feel to it, with many fond memories, it was totally inadequate for a
major hockey program. The Norris Center and many other advances on campus
are a direct result of Dr. Shouldice's efforts. As one who interacted with
him while he was on campus, I sincerely appreciate the posting of his
passing and share the deep sense of loss that all LAKER alumni and fans must
feel.
