Summary-

Union again spent most of the night in the penalty box, and freshman
goalie Mike Gallant kept them in the game with another outstanding
effort, as the Dutchmen lost to Brown 3-2. A total of 26 2-minute
penalties were handed out, plus one misconduct. 2 of Brown's 3 goals
were scored with Brown on a 5-on-3 advantage.

Jayson Flowers opened the scoring for the Dutchmen early, putting the
puck past Brett Haywood during a scramble in front of the net with
Union on the power play at 1:58. Scott Hanley pulled Brown even with
a 5-on-3 power play goal at 14:20.

The second period was played with almost no 5-on-5 play. Union
regained the lead on Rich Burchill's power play goal at 11:44. Gallant
stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced during the period, to keep Union tied
going into the final period.

Union again spent too much of the 3rd period in the penalty box.
Craig Ferrero was sent off at 13:34, and Rick Clifford at 15:30. For
some reason Ferrero was still in the box, and Brown was on another
5-on-3 advantage when defenseman Scott Whitney couldn't clear the
zone, leading to Mike Brewer's game winner at 16:28. More than 2
minutes had elapsed since Ferrero's penalty, and the game announcer
(and the paper) did not indicate anything beyond a 2-minute minor.
Union made the game exciting when they got a power play with 88
seconds left, but they couldn't get any good shots off, and Brown just
missed the empty Union net with about 10 seconds left.

Gallant has stopped 90 of 96 shots in 2 games, but only has an 0-2
record to show for it. Union is averaging 33 minutes of penalties
through 4 games, and has managed double digits in shots on goal in
only 1 of 12 periods this season.

Union falls to 0-3 in the ECAC, 0-4 overall, while Brown is 1-1.

Union will now break for final exams, and return to the ice with a
non-league game at Achilles Rink against Concordia on Nov 30. They
resume ECAC play the following weekend as they make their North
Country trip to visit Clarkson and SLU.
