Nope, you're absolutely right, and I'm surprised I never thought of it.
Rissling, along with alternate captains Mike Evans and Blair Wagar have
held their titles for the past three years. Prior to that there was no
UMass hockey team, so they clearly didn't win any letters. Hopefully, for
their sake, the captains of the 1979 team (UMass' last) had graduated by
then and openings abounded when the hodge-podge 1993-94 season was put
together. Rissling, Evans and Wagar, all newcomers (sophomores
athletically), were given C's and A's prior to the first game, and they have
held them since.
