The awards: (I'm leaving out the official names)
  Outstanding Junior or Senior defenseman:  Doug Wood
  Athletics and Academics combined:  Bob Lachance
  Most Improved Player:  Matt Wright
    note: this is during the year, not from last year to this year.
  Unsung Hero:  Ken Rausch and Kaj Linna
  MVP vs BC:  Jacques Joubert (5 g., 7 a. in 4 games)
  Spirit:  Steve Thornton

Some notes:
  When J.P. McKersie was called up, after receiving a standing
ovation, he could only briefly thank everyone for the support
because he was so choked up with tears.  It was one of the
highlights of the evening.
 
  After it was pointed out that senior Ken Rausch (a true walk-
on as a freshman) was the MVP of both the Mariucci and Beanpot
tourney's and performed soooo well in both the Hockey East and
NCAA tourney, the coaches joked that they should have told him
every week that they were playing in a tourney... "This week is
the Northeastern tourney, next week is the Lowell tourney..."
 
  One thing that was not noticed, but is a definite sign of what
coach Parker's true strength as a coach is, is that Thornton's
winning the award for the best defensive-forward of New England
makes it 6 straight years that a BU player has won that award.

BU has had other players win it in the past, but not in this
type of run.  The last BU player to do it before Tomlinson was
Peter Marshall in the mid-to-late 80's.
 
 
One extremely meaningful note from Parker: (paraphrased as best as
possible)  He said that the Quarterfinal game vs. Lake State was
the most perfectly played game, in terms of emotion and technique,
that he has ever had the pleasure to experience as a coach{
 
 
In regard to next year, Parker does not seem to be thinking about
that right now, and rightly so.  His advice to the players, coaches,
and fans was to enjoy what has happened this year.  Buy two T-shirts,
one to wear around, and one to put away for 5-10 years.  He talked
about how many Final 4's BU went to under him in the 70's before
they finally won it... and about how many they've gone to in the 90's
before finally winning it.  He wanted to really emphasize what it
means to have won it all, making references to many "great" coaches
who were never able to experience it.
 
Essentially, this is something special that we will all tell our
grand-kids about and say... we were there.
 
Next year will come next year... enjoy right now, because right
now may never come again.
