I have done my share of criticizing Buzzy, but if I recall, for
the past three years (at least), he and Greg Shepherd have split
the coaches' vote for best official in the WCHA.
For those who care, here is a list of WCHA officials for this
season (from the Wisconsin game program):
REFEREES:
Greg Shephard (and supervisor of officials)
Bob Ames
Robin ANderson
Mike Brandt
John Boche
K.C.Chernak
"Buzz" Christiansen
Tom Goddard
Jerry Krieger
Brendan Rutherford
Mike Schmitt
John Seidel
Mark Thomas
Michael Tok
Chick Yackel
LINESMEN:
Jeff Cooper (UAA)
Dennis Sorenson (UAA)
Todd Gow (CC & DU)
Kirk Schoech (CC & DU)
Krish Schoech (CC & DU)
Tim Swiader (CC & DU)
Dan Kelly (MTU & NMU)
Mark Nebel (MTU & NMU)
Joe Romano (MTU & NMU)
Jon Campion (UM & SCSU)
Jon Elvy (UM & SCSU)
Larry Gonrowski (UM & SCSU)
Tony Teal (UM & SCSU)
Brett Klosowski (UMD)
Butch Glesner (UMD)
Craig Hanson (UND)
Jay Kleven (UND)
Randy Schmidt (UND)
Dan Brown (UW)
Tony Fabian (UW)
Note that each school has at least two "local" linesman (Dan Brown is
from Wausau, I think, which is not really local to Madison). I don't
know how they are assigned for each game. Also, this weekend in Madison,
we had Jon Campion as a linesman, who is listed as a Minnesota and St.
Cloud linesman. My guess is that both Tony Fabian and Dan Brown
officiated at the state high school tournament (in Madison) this
weekend, and were therefore unavailable.
