In rounds one through three, players aged 18, 19 and 20, plus non-
North American players aged 21 or older can be chosen. (To qualify
as an 18-year-old, a player must turn 18 before or on Sept. 15).
 
For rounds four through 12, 18 and 19 year olds are eligible if they
meet the following criteria: three seasons of Canadian major junior, or
three seasons of U.S. high school hockey or equivalent, or one season
of college hockey, or two seasons in an elite or Division I European
League, or a combination of seasons in at least two of the above.
