Speaking of pounding on the glass and verbal abuse, we had an experience
at Michigan Tech back in the mid 80's where things got a little out of
hand.

We were playing MSU during winter carnival and one of their players just
skated into our goalie. As things were being straightened out, a state
player skated back against the glass right in front of the student
section. As I remember it, this player was kind of a hack (Icould be
wrong). One of our fans stood up and jammed the glass, which hit the
state player in the back of the head. The state player spun around and
swung his stick at the glass just missing this students head. And as the
student reared back, his glasses fell off onto the ice. The state player
proceeded to show his stick skills using the glasses as his puck.

This is one of those cases where school spirit clearly had gotten out of
hand. I think the rule is a good one because there is no need for this
kind of activity at a hockey game. Like many of the rest of you, I am all
for being able to voice my opinion towards the refs and opposing players,
but we should all remember to show some class for we are representing
our schools.
