Here at Plattsburgh (DIV III) when we play Oswego State, on the first
Plattsburgh goal, everyone throws a tennis ball onto the ice (towards the
Oswego goaltender) because of the
green of the Oswego away jersey. So there are about 4000-4500 tennis balls
on the ice for about ten minutes while maintenance cleans them up; which
then results in a bench minor, delay-of-game against Plattsburgh. I THINK
this started back in 1986-87 when we played Oswego SIX times on home ice,
and beat them all six times (The Championship that is now vacant). It may
go further back than that, I really can't remember. I honestly don't know
the logic behind throwing the tennis balls onto the ice but it gets the
crowd up, and gets the coach pissed.
Later!
