I know that Minnesota fans are sometimes accused of
excessive whining but the seeding the Gopher's received
on Sunday is a joke. During the regular season they were WCHA
co-champions with North Dakota, split their season series
with North Dakota, and had a one goal differential in games
played between the two teams. In the WCHA Final Five they
met the Sioux in the championship game and rallied to force
it into overtime. Now, because of an flukey deflection which
gave North Dakota the game winner, they are given the fourth
seed in the West and are forced to play a tough Michigan State
team on Saturday to battle for the privilege of facing the #1 team
in the country on Sunday. I believe the Gopher's finished fourth in
the final PWR ratings yet they still have to face the #1 team in the PWR
ratings just to get to the Final Four. I have heard the NC$$ does not
want inter-conference matchups in the early games but there has to be
a better way than this.
