Ralph Slater asked when RPI used jerseys with the RPI bullet. I think
that he is correct that it was the early '80s, but my memory plays
tricks on me. I will try to look it up this evening if I remember.
Paul Vescio stated that in the early '80s RPI used jerseys with a
diagonal ornate RPI. I think that these were used in the mid-'80s,
about the time of the national championship in 1985, but I doubt that
they were used for more than a year.
Interestingly, every picture that I have ever seen of RPI before I
arrived in 1964 has RPI in essentially the same Santa Claus uniform
(seems appropriate for the season). My freshman year, not everyone
wore the same uniform as some had the number on the back and on the
front underneath the RPI (the old style) while some had the number on
the back and on the sleeves. Within a year or two all of the uniforms
were the latter kind. These uniforms were still used until the early
'70s, again if memory serves me well.
