I agree, I don't see even a partial reunification of the two leagues in the
near future. Although I think it would be a neat idea if the two leagues came
up with an interlocking tournament similar to that of the early season ACC/Big
East Challenge in college basketball. All the tournament would consist of
would be one game between each of the top 8 teams from the previous seasons
final standings. One would play one, two would play two, three would play
three, etc. with the odd-seeded ECAC teams and the even-seeded HE teams hosting
the game the first year and then reverse it the following year.
I know all eight HE schools play at least one non-conference game against one
of the ECAC teams, and most of the ECAC teams play at least a game against a HE
school. The "tournament" would give a little more meaning to an early season
non-league game, attendance would be high, and maybe even NESN would get in on
the act thus increasing revenue for each league.
Any comments?
