What is wrong with this headline? :
"Montgomery No. 9 jersey to be retired"
Thats right sports fans, Jim wore number 19. Hopefully the good
people at the Herald will learn to check information before they
print it...
Anyway, from the article...
"The University of Maine announced that they will retire the jersey
of Jim Montgomery before Friday's game against Providence at Orono.
Montgomery's No. [1]9 will be only the second Maine hockey jersey to
be retired, after that of 1992 Hobey Baker Award winner Scott Pellerin.
Montgomery captained the 1993 national championship team."
The article also mentions that Scott Parmentier was HE Rookie of the
Week, and that Parmentier is the only Black Bear to be given a weekly
award, "...but goaltender Blair Allison is coming due. Allison, a
junior, leads the league
in goals-against average in league games (2.51) and overall (2.45)".
I think this marks the first time the PPH has actually lobbied for
a player to receive a weekly award...
