Good to see HE at least try the shootouts for a year. While it may not save
significant portions of time, it will keep the players from skating an extra 5
minutes (in the case of a 10-minute OT) and then perhaps not deciding it. As
for Paulette's concern that the burden of a loss will be on only a few players,
this is often the case anyhow. Players often blame themselves for losing 1-
goal games by not making a save, not defending well, missing an open net, etc.
These are grown men and they can handle the burden of blame they put on them-
selves. If they were 6 years old I would be concerned about it, but not at 20.
At least HE is trying to improve the game. The NC$$ considers them ties anyhow
so no harm done there. If they are a failure, I'm sure that they will revoke
the rule next season.
I'm off for a two-week visit to Michigan, New England and the Jersey coast
