Last Night the cornell women lost 5-3 to the RIT tigers. It was a case of
cornell not capitalizing early on scoring opportunities, and their having
trouble getting the puck out of their zone.

While the game was still scoreless in the 1st, Cornell's Jen Wilson missed
2 excellent scoring opportunities, one which was created by a centering
pass by andy Schmalz and another when she went into the RIT zone on a
breakaway. Kerry Hammond also was the recipient of a nice centering pass
to point blank range and she too failed to put the puck in the net. RIT's
goalie, Lisa Sturm, did a good job keeping RIT in the game. At 5;36 of the
first period, Marie Signo [from Lisa Gentile] of RIT opened the scoring.
This goal was created by sloppy play of Cornell's defense at their
blueline. Cornell tied the game while on the first of several 2 man
advantages. Defenseman Stacey Hutton carried the puck into the zone.. the
puck found its way to the corner and Hutton crashed the net. Tracey
Cornell centered the puck and Hutton was able to push it by Sturm. From
where I was sitting, it was quite a scramble in front to get that puck in!

RIT struck early in the second. At 1:03 Kristina Misita put one the
Cornell's goalie Sarah Brewster's five-hole. Then at 2:10, Signor struck
again [from Gentile]. Cornell had a chance to pull within one when
Christine Stewart broke into the zone and took a shot that was going for
the upper corner, glove side. Sturm made an awesome save to keep the game
at 3-1. RIT was then given a 2 man advantage and Lisa Gentile [Misita,
Missy Priebe] scored to make it 4-1 with 5:46 left in the second.

Cornell came out in the third period with another 2 man powerplay and
pulled within 2 when Tracy Cornell deflected Andy Schmalz shot from the
point. However with just over 5 minutes left in the game RIT again took a
3 goal lead on a goal by Shantel Gammie. Cornell answered back quickly
with a goal by Stewart [Hammond, and Lindsay Wakula] but it was too little
too late. Throughout the 3rd, cornell put pressure on RIT but couldn't put
the puck in the net. Hopefully, they will be able to recruit a sniper for
next season; someone who will convert the numerous scoring opportunities
into goals.

this win puts RIT at 3-9 for the season [two of those wins courtesy of
Cornell] and CU drops to 1-12. According to the program, Andy Schamalz was
named Ivy league player of the week.
