The ECAC playoff site selection needs to revamped.
What happened last year to Plattsburgh was horrible.
If you don't remember - Plattsburgh was the #1 seed with
Elmira #2, Mercyhurst #3 and Fredonia #4. During the
week prior to the final 4 showdown - the committee
decides to change the site to Elmira and........
the Friday game times would be:
Plattsburgh vs Fredonia at 4PM
Mercyhurst vs Elmira 7:30PM -"prime time game"
Now, I ask you was this decision fair ?
Mercyhurst was shafted as well - there's at least a 2 goal
disadvantage in playing Elmira at home, instead of playing
them at Plattsburgh.
Also, Plattsburgh had to travel and play a SUNY rival
in a neutral site ?????
Well - Mercyhurst beats Elmira in that game - by the way
they beat them 3 times last year and what did that count
for in the committees selection process for ECAC or for
NC$$ considerations ??????? Elmira was rated ahead
of Mercyhurst in both accounts.
The ECAC Championship last year at Elmira (Plattsburgh vs
Mercyhurst) was played in front of a sparse gathering and
when Plattsburgh won it - they left the trophy at center
ice.
The ECAC was laughed at by all the SUNY schools and
probably deserved it - again - without a "commissioner"
of ECAC WEST/EAST you have things being run by a
committee of A.D.'s that have their own agenda's.

This year 1992-93:
The committee that will decide both the seedings and
site for ECAC WEST and EAST is:
Mary Barrett (chair) U.Mass Boston
Thomas Lawson, Middlebury
Steve Stirling, Babson (he's AD and Coach)
John Galaris, Salem State
Lou Spiotti, RIT
Patricia Thompson, Elmira College

The seedings will be based on 6 criteria - I can post these if you want
me too.

The site will be based upon these criteria:
1. availability and "condition" of facility
2. minimizing travel costs
3. a schools ability to comply with "Official Agency" requests.
4. potential to generate income

keeping those four points in mind - wh
I have a lot of thoughts but some schools have an "unfair"
advantage - does this mean Elmira will host every year.

What ever happened to the Div. III philosophy -????

The west consists of 7 schools - only 2 rinks meet their
standards - Elmira and RIT - why should we even have
a playoff selection committee ???

Oh, by the way what are the rinks in the EAST like -
U. Conn , Babson, Bowdoin, - are they acceptable ??

There's way too much politics - and there has been.

P.S.
If they gave us a choice of the following :
Scenario #1 Mercyhurst Hosts:
Game #1 4PM Canisius vs Elmira at Mercyhurst
Game #2 8PM Mercyhurst vs RIT or Hobart
----afterall Mercyhurst has the better record.
                 or
Scenario #2 Elmira Hosts:
Game #1 4PM Canisius vs Mercyhurst
Game #2 8PM Elmira vs RIT or Hobart

                or
Scenario #3 Elmira Hosts (because of centrality and Money)
BUT the SEEDS are:
Game 1 4PM (1)Mercyhurst vs (4) RIT or Hobart
Game 2 8PM (2)Elmira vs (3) Canisius
Soooo.... we play Elmira - at Elmira - is this fair???
