Coach Bob Mancini opened his career with MTU on a winning note as Tech defeated
Colorado Colllege 4-2 in a wild finish at the John McGinnis Student Ice arena
CC moved the score to 3-2 in the final minutes of the game, then after a time
out pulled the goaltender, then with 32 seconds left John Young received a
2 minute minor for hooking. The ensuing face off found the draw coming back
to Soph Liam Garvey who lofted the puck over everyone milling around the face
off circle, and into the empty net at the other end, for the final goal.
Talking with Liam and his father after the game, Liam said it was a perfect
sandwedge shot. His dad said all those golf lessons finally paid off.
scoring the other 3 goals for the huskies were Hugh McEwen, Patrick Mikesch
(his first as a huskie), and Martin Machacek (also his first)
The FIRST place Huskies (sorry Pam, Carol and Erik, had to get that one in!)
got some help tonight from North Dakota, as the Souix over came a 2-1
first period score to take a 8-4 win over the Gophers! ;-)
